Wisdom cannot be caught unawares. Wisdom is ready for what comes and is ready for you as Proverbs 9:1-6.
Wisdom has built her house;
she has hewn out its seven pillars.
She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;
she has also set her table.
She has sent out her maids, and she calls
from the highest point of the city.
“Let all who are simple come in here!”
she says to those who lack judgment.
“Come, eat my food
and drink the wine I have mixed.
Leave your simple ways and you will live;
walk in the way of understanding.
You don’t have to write the great American novel to obtain wisdom. You don’t have to seclude yourself in a monastery for years to get it. You don’t have to memorize thousands of lines.
You need to hear wisdom’s call. You need to turn to wisdom and drink from its table. When you take of wisdom’s fare you will not find it hard to swallow. You might find some unique and different dishes, but the experience will be wonderful.
The invitation is there before you. It screams from creation. It shouts from your most inner being. You crave wisdom, but where to find it gets confused in today’s world. You sit at the table of friends hoping that they will give you the wisdom you crave. You accept the invite of drugs and alcohol for it. You eat with the educated hoping that degrees will bring your wisdom. You surround yourself in material possessions that will give the appearance of wisdom. But in the end will all of this give you true wisdom that arises to every occasion and grows you as a person? Only following the Lord’s Word can you obtain the wisdom you crave. Only by humbling yourself can you get there.
What is preventing you from accepting wisdom’s invitation and eat of her food? What is preventing you from growing and absorbing wisdom?
