Lesson 54

Wisdom goes beyond knowing the right thing to say at the right time.

Counsel and sound judgment are mine;
I have understanding and power.

By me kings reign
and rulers make laws that are just;

by me princes govern,
and all nobles who rule on earth. (Proverbs 8:14-16 NIV)

“Sound judgment”. Knowing when to act and when not to act. Wisdom is deep, extremely deep. When someone obtains wisdom, they don’t have to worry about making right decisions. They automatically seek God first. That is one of the biggest differences and makes a wise person stand out.

Do our rulers show wisdom? I think I just heard a resounding “NO”. When rulers obtain and exercise wisdom you can be assured that their laws are just. There would be no need for debates and vetoes.

What do you look for in a mayor, governor, representative, or president? Do you look for wisdom or their voting record over the last five years? Do you look for sound judgment or how popular they are? Do we train our future leaders to seek wisdom?
