King Solomon concludes chapter 7 with a reminder to listen and watch your step.
24 Now then, my sons, listen to me;
pay attention to what I say.
25 Do not let your heart turn to her ways
or stray into her paths.
26 Many are the victims she has brought down;
her slain are a mighty throng.
27 Her house is a highway to the grave,
leading down to the chambers of death. (Proverbs 7:24-27 NIV)
He starts off repeating the advice of listening to his words. When someone has experience in something, you listen to them. You pay attention. And since we are forget and stubborn, he is reminding us to listen to God’s Word.
Keep your heart with God. Don’t let it go down the path of sin whether it can be adultery, gambling, shopping needlessly, or anything else that could pull you away from God and where He wants you to be. When you go down that path, you cannot come out in a pleasant garden with such sweet smelling flowers. You might convince yourself of that when you first see the path, but you are lying to yourself and that can be an extremely deadly thing to do.
Where in your life do you find yourself painting rosy pictures? Why do you do it? How can you face reality and be aware of what lies ahead?
