Do you have someone close enough to you that you call them sister or brother? I’ve had a couple over the years. They are very precious to you. They have a place in your heart and in your life that cannot be replaced. In fact you may go each day and honestly think of them, pray for them, and maybe spend time with them. They are important to you.
Wisdom should be like that, too.
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
and call understanding your kinsman; (Proverbs 7:4 NIV)
Wisdom is not something you can buy. It is not something that you visit in passing. It is not an acquaintance. It is close to your heart as family should be. You should spend time with it. You should love it and cherish it.
they will keep you from the adulteress,
from the wayward wife with her seductive words. (Proverbs 7:5 NIV)
This area is still in the part of Proverbs focusing on adultery. It is warning us that when we don’t have wisdom close to us it can be dangerous. Wisdom can keep you safe from an affair. Much better than an army or weapons. It is the ultimate in weapons. It can protect you from many pitfalls in life, not just adultery. There are some people who may never be tempted in this area or have any problems there, but these words can be applied to other areas of your life. Where can you be led astray from family, priorities, ethics, morals?
