Solomon continues here to emphasize the importance of his words.
Listen, my son, accept what I say,
and the years of your life will be many. (NIV)
Listen to the wise words of your elder. They are meant to help and to protect.
I guide you in the way of wisdom
and lead you along straight paths.
When you walk, your steps will not be hampered;
when you run, you will not stumble. (11-12 NIV)
The ultimate job of a parent or mentor: to guide others in the way of wisdom and keep them on the path before them.
To the one seeking wisdom: when you listen to wisdom and hold it close to your heart you will not have to worry about tripping or anything to prevent you from running down the path of life. It will protect you and guide you.
To the one leading: are you where you need to be to guide someone else down the road of wisdom?
Each person on this journey has a responsibility: to learn wisdom and to be a source of God’s wisdom. And there will come a time down this road when you will be both.
Today, think of where you are in your journey toward wisdom. Are you even on the road to it? Are you getting lost? Keep on it. Find a trusted mentor or friend to go along with you.
