Lesson 19

Proverbs continues with more gems of wisdom that each and every person should take to heart.

3:31-32 says

Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways,
for the Lord detests a perverse man but takes the upright into his confidence.

Why would we be jealous of them?  They might be popular.  They might have money and power.  They might have a toy that we’ve really wanted for a long time.  But that is no reason to envy him.  Psalm 37:1-2 states.
Do not fret because of evil men
or be envious of those who do wrong;
for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.

While right now these evil people might seem to be getting everything that they desire, in the end they will get what they least expect.  They will be banished forever into the lake of fire.  Is that envy of that toy really worth it now?  The Lord does not look at all favorable on the evil man.  In fact, he detests him.  But those that are wise and do good, He pulls toward him and reveals amazing things.  This sentence does not mean that he doesn’t want to save the evil man or turn him around.  Remember when you study the Bible you have to take it as one whole book and not pull one verse out to explain everything.  He wants the evil man to repent and change His ways.  He has done drastic measure to help you along that path.  This passage is explain why it is so wrong of us to envy the evil ones because in reality that do not have it any better than you.
