Lesson 17

The poetry of the Proverbs continues in 3:19-20.

By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations,
by understanding he set the heavens in place;
by his knowledge the deeps were divided,
and the clouds let drop the dew. (NIV)

These words emphasize the power the Lord has.  Through His wisdom that He would like to share with you, He created the earth and the heavens.  He is that powerful.  How often do you forget that as you about your life not turning to Him for this wisdom and power?

It continues in 21-26 with these words:

My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment,
do not let them out of your sight;
they will be life for you,
an ornament to grace your neck.
Then you will go on your way in safety,
and your foot will not stumble;
when you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
for the Lord will be your confidence
and will keep your foot from being snared. (NIV)

Who out there would disagree with the first line that you need sound judgment and discernment?  We all say that we need it, but do we seek it out.  It says not to let them out of your sight.  They should be with you at all times.  How is that possible?  By being in the Word all the time.  That does not mean that you have to walk around with the Bible in your hands and reading aloud to everyone.  Place Bible verses next to your computer.  Sign up for a verse of the day to be sent to you.  Dedicate time each time for a quiet time to just read.  Listen to teachers either on the radio or the internet.  It can be done.  Begin to memorize verses so that they are always with you.

They are described as being life for you and gracing your neck for all to see.  The importance of this keeps being told to us over and over.  I think we need to listen.  When we follow the Word and listen to the teachings, and put into practice what we read, what do we have to be afraid of.  We know the end result and we know who hold tomorrow (my favorite song).

How can you make sure that the Word is always near you, always in front of you?  Be intentional and put it there.  It cannot hurt you.
