We’re going to conclude our short tour of Malachi today. God started out in this message as a very upset and betrayed. When the priests expressed surprise and His reaction and proclaimed innocence, He pointed out the error of their ways. He showed them where they were stealing and being disrespectful. At the end of that reminder they repented of their deeds and got back on the right path.
The Lord now goes into what is coming.
“Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and that day that is coming will set them on fire,” says the LORD Almighty. “Not a root or a branch will be left to them. But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall. Then you will trample down the wicked; they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I do these things,” says the LORD Almighty. (4:1-3 NIV)
There is hope for all who believe. When the end comes and the ones who have rejected Him have been destroyed, only the true children of God will remain. He will give triumph to you. He will give you safety. You will not be a casualty of war. There is no such thing in this war.
“Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel. See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse.” (4:4-6 NIV)
He leaves us with the reminder that we need to remember His Word. It can only serve us well. He is also leaving the priests with a reminder that a Savior is coming and judgment will prevail.
Are you in the Word? Are you sure that you will survive the final battle and all the battles between now and then?
