Lesson 5

James continues in chapter 1 verses 16-18 by saying:

Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

We are so easily deceived.  We fall for every latest thing under the sun.  Be strong and diligent.  Don’t be deceived.  Despite what others tell you, “every good and perfect gift is from above.”  Now we have to decide what is “good and perfect”.  Sometimes what we view as good or perfect, is only good for our own desires or wants.  It seems perfect because we WANT it to be perfect.  What we want is to have it all our way, and that is now how it is or should be.  He is always the same so we don’t have to worry about the effects of politics, mood swings, a bad day, or anything that we are easily effected by.

He chose you.  He chose me.  He wants us to be the light of His Word and to be the window to others.

Take the time today to make sure that you are not deceived by all the latest fads and gadgets that come your way.  Go to Him and ask Him if you really should.
